Fairs

Okay, I don't know about where you live, but where I live the state fair is a huge deal! My state's fair is one of the largest in the country, and it's just rather absurd. They get thousands, more likely a million or two people coming through. I just find it overrated. I woke up at like 6am on a Saturday morning to get there and I still had to park over 5 blocks away, and when we got there there were hundreds, maybe thousands of people already! Not even half of the stuff was open yet! The amount of money required to go is ridiculous. I mean, it's over $10 just to get in the door, $4 for mini donuts, an essential, $5 for cheese curds, yet another essential, and everything's just outrageous. Luckily I parked for free, but I did have to walk. Most people paid $20 to park too. Maybe I'm being over dramatic, but I really don't like spending money. I mean, if you only make minimum wage, you need to work over an hour just for some junky snack!
I just find fairs in general overrated though. Like, you get there, you go look at some smelly animals, look at some local artwork, buy some expensive food, go on a ride, play some carnival name, and then buy some more expensive food, and then you go home. I am not an animal person. I am a strong cat lover, but that's about it. There are no cats at the fair, only smelly cows, sheep, chicken, rabbits, and maybe some pigs or ducks or something. I don't go on rides, I refuse, I've always been too afraid to go on them. I don't play any carnival games either, I never seem to win, and you go through a lot of money easily. I don't care for looking at any of the exhibits either.
The whole atmosphere of fairs is sickening to me. You see all these people just wasting their money on pointless junk and more food than they need, and then going nuts over all the free bags and stuff. I personally do not like taking free things even if they are free, I always feel guilty. I mean if I stop by and look at some stuff, talk to the people at the exhibit, I feel okay, but just taking it feels wrong. I don't like being reminded of greed, hunger, money, or competition, which is all displayed at fairs.
I can't complain about my day at the fair too much. The weather was great, not hot, not cold, just sort of this perfect temperature, and it wasn't too sunny or too cloudy. A fair in the heat or the cold would be horrible. I also bought a new dress and got some pictures with Family Guy cut outs, or whatever those things you put your head through with their bodies on the wood or whatever you're standing in back of. Family Guy has been an obsession of mine this summer so I really was happy to see that fictional family standing there.
I don't know, I just can't shake the weird vibes I get from fairs...you get good vibes from families just out having some fun, but then bad vibes from the vendors selling stuff, you know? I mean, I guess it's like that most places, but fairs just seem...not good in my mind.
I can see why some people enjoy fairs though. There is pretty delicious food, rides if you like that, concerts if you've got tickets, local celebrities to meet, and lots of other stuff. There's good people watching too, good place to observe humanity.
So...do any of you have opinions on fairs? Love? Hate? Meh?
